Andrea Stanislav

Andréa Stanislav (b. Chicago, 1968) is based in New York City, NY and splits her practice between St .Petersburg, Russia and Bloomington, IN. Stanislav received a MFA from Alfred University, NY in 1997; and a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1990. Since 2018, she holds an Associate Professor of Sculpture position at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design, and is an Affiliate Faculty with the Russian & Eastern European Institute, Indiana University Bloomington, IN.

 

Stanislav's hybrid practice spans sculpture, immersive multimedia installation, video and public art. Her artwork has been exhibited internationally and nationally at museums, contemporary art centers, galleries, biennials, art fairs and video festivals. Selected solo exhibitions and projects include The Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art, Pittsburg; The Russian Museum of Art, Minneapolis; The Saint Louis Art Museum, St. Louis; The Museum of Cosmonautics, Moscow, Russia; The Museum of Non-Conformist Art, Saint Petersburg, Russia; The Center for Digital Arts, TelAviv, Isreal; Socrates Sculpture Park, New York City; The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Minneapolis; Weisman Art Museum, Minneapolis; 21c Museum, Louisville; U.S. Embassy in Sweden; amongst other venues and permanent public art commissions.

 

She has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants including a 2021 Museum of NonConformist Art Artist Residency, Saint Petersburg, Russia; a 2020 Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art Artist Residency; 2019 National Center of Contemporary Art (NCCA) Residency Award, St. Petersburg, Russia; The 2015/2016 Freund Fellowship, Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, Washington University, St. Louis / St. Louis Art Museum; The 2015 Target Studio Artist in Resident, Weisman Art Museum, Minneapolis, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council 2012 Residency, New York City; 2010/2011 McKnight Artists Fellowship for Visual Arts, Minneapolis; a University of Calgary International Visiting Artist Fellowship; and a Socrates Sculpture Park 2009 Jerome Emerging Artist Fellowship, NewYork City.

 

Stanislav has worked with such internationally known composers on her projects, including Feodor Begemot Lavrov (Floor is Lava, Russia), Konstantin Stukov (Mariinsky Theater Orchestra, Saint Petersburg, Russia), Reid Kruger (Grammy Award Nominated, Minneapolis), and Jesse Gelaznik (New. York City), and renowned musicians including rock drummer - Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Smashing Pumpkins, Jon Bon Jovi); the Bolshoi Orchestra Brass Section, Bolshoi Ballet and Opera Theater, Moscow, Russia); and guitarist - Alexander Korbukov (Sedgodnya Nochyu, SWEAT, Russia). Choreographers and dance troops include internationally regarded - Zeljko Jergan with the Tamburitzans, Pittsburgh; Catalyst Dance Group, Minneapolis; Vitaly Kim with Theater of the Earth, and Work Stage Dance Company, Saint Petersburg, Russia; and Leah Schrager, New York City.
