After leaving her country for Caracas, Venezuela, where she lives and continues to work mainly on drawing and intaglio printmaking, artist Liliam Cuenca moves to the United States in 1986. Next year she is invited to show in Recent Development of Latin American Drawing at the Art Institute of Chicago and enter the Art Center South Florida, a regional cultural institution where she receives a grant as a residential artist and where she starts to work as a full time painter for the first time. In 1990 she is awarded the Cintas Foundation Fellowship. Today she is an artist exhibiting nationally and internationally and her work recognized by museums, collectors and galleries.

Liliam Cuenca studied at the old Academia de San Alejandro and the Taller Experimental de Grafica in Havana, Cuba. She has had solo and group exhibitions in Latin America, Europe, Japan and the United States. Her work is in private and public collections as the Contemporary Art and Culture Center of Osaka,Japan, The Museum of Contemporary Art of North Miami, Fla., and the Lowe Art Museum in Miami, among other institutions.

Statement

I have always feel as if there were another world a parallel world we see or imagine to see, places, landscapes, sometimes inhabited, sometimes not, somehow connected to our real world somehow telling us something like in a secret game. A personal view, a reflection of the world we live in and the forces that move it.
